WHAT IS AAUW?
AAUW is the American
Association of University Women, a nationwide organization with
more than 100,000 members. Our mission is to promote education and equity
for all women and girls, lifelong education, and positive societal change.
AAUW has 1,300 local branches across the country, working together to
raise funds to support educational equity. My Turn to Learn
reflects AAUW's current program theme: "Education: Gateway to Women's
Financial Security."
AAUW operates two major funds to implement its mission. The Educational
Foundation, the largest fund of its kind, gives grants and awards of
$4,000,000 each year to support Community Action Grants, major research
studies, and individual grant support to women pursuing graduate degrees.
AAUW's Legal Advocacy Fund supports women pursuing sex discrimination
lawsuits in academia. AAUW also has an active lobbying presence on Capitol
Hill, promoting issues related to women's equity.
